Summary:
This thesis deals with the utilization of modelling as a predictive tool for embankment dam behaviour. It emphasizes the complexity of dam structures, highlighting the necessity of predictions and comparison with measurements. The research focuses on parameter identification, dam measurement interpretation and numerical predictions. Two dams, one existing and one experimental, are analysed. Challenges in obtaining material parameters for numerical models are addressed. Inverse analysis for calibration against field measurements were done to obtain material parameters for an existing dam. The mechanical behaviour of an experimental dam is analysed, revealing non-homogeneous conditions despite controlled construction.
